ANR- AWAKENING TO A NEW REALITY
Why?
The most volatile age in human life is 18-30 years – full of dreams enthusiasm and
idealism. On the flipside, either the youngsters get aggressive or they go into
a shell. Their attention span is short, they get bored easily and tend to get disempowered
in their attitude (Don’t know, Can’t do). They get bogged down by issues of food,
sex, relationships, educational pressure, no self esteem, anxiety about future,
confusion about the present, etc. The ANR introduces one to a course which does
not only provide an answer but a workable solution to implement the same in order
to lead a meaningful and a purposeful life.

When and Where?

Date: 18th May 2009
Place: Tolani College Auditorium,Andheri (W),Mumbai

What?
A collection of 200 youth accompanied by friends and family were audience and enthusiastic
participants to an evening of fun, singing, reflection and insight into their behaviour..
a key reason why the event is called awakening to a new reality.
Young people milled around, looking excited, some waiting in anticipation for the
event of the evening to begin. Some, however, looked rather purposeful, which as
one later understood were the Art of Living volunteers...the
entire bunch highly motivated and driven.
The event began with a spirited Bharatnatyam performance by Kritika Seth. It ended
with her combining the Indian Classical with a Western performance – a super example
of fusion. Next on the performance agenda was a skit – dealing with most of the
issues youth are faced with in their lives. With every turn of the phrase or the
situation the audience broke into impromptu laughter of realization.
This was followed by a satsang. The initial and expected hush in the air regarding
bhajans being not relevant in the youth’s life was gradually replaced by a silent
meditative hum that came from the crowd as the soulful voices of Anagha, Krish and
Harshal found their way deep into their heart and mind. The crescendo of each bhajan
thereafter was accompanied with rhythmic clapping of the audience along with the
rising and falling notes of the bhajans.
The final piece of the evening and the most powerful one at that was the talk by
Dr. Rohit Sabharwal. In his own inimitable style, he pepped his talk with examples
of what usually derails the human mind from achieving what it must.
There wasn’t a single person in the audience who did not identify deeply with insights
into their own conscious and almost involuntary behavioural reflexes – most of which
end up limiting their ability to deal with life effectively.
As the talk came to an end the crowd’s mood was one of eagerness...eagerness to
know when and how they could join the earliest available course. They had reactions
that nearly bordered on disbelief and incredibility.
“Is it really possible to transcend the mind’s games?
“Is it possible to overcome the flurry of thoughts and fluctuating emotions?”
“You mean to say I’d overcome the depression of my boyfriend leaving me???”
All in all some bit in them did awaken to the possibility of a new reality.
