Aurwan Tand: A lonely village in Uttar Pradesh- a place with 100%
illiteracy, where children dream of growing up to become Naxalites!
YES!+ is running a school there called "Sri Sri Seva
Mandir" championed by ordinary youth, who are doing extraordinary things.

Resting in the lap of nature, Aurwan Tand is a small village in eastern Uttar Pradesh:
block Naugarh, tehsil Chakia and district Chandauli having a population of merely
30 families, mostly from the Kharwar tribe. The typical earnings are just six thousand
to eight thousand rupees a year. Illiteracy, ignorance and unhygienic conditions
exist in the whole area. Awareness about health is totally lacking. There is no
electricity and no means of transportation. The nearest market, Naugarh, is 16 km.
away.

With a vision of promoting educational excellence, volunteers of
Art of Living made arrangements for running a school with higher classes.
The aim of Art of Living is the all-round development
of students. Along with studies, it imparts knowledge of rules of health, cleanliness,
environmental awareness, etc. Feelings of patriotism, honesty and integrity are
instilled in them. For this purpose a “bal sabha” (children’s
assembly) is organised every week.
