GO VEG WALK
Why?
As Gandhiji said, "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged
by the ways its animals are treated". And India would not want to be judged by the
treatment of chickens and cows raised and killed for food. The animals are confined
in filthy sheds or tabelas and they are denied everything that's natural and important
to them. Their slaughter is crude, terrifying and often painful, and they are sometimes
dismembered while they are still conscious.
Eating animals is also bad for our health and the environment. Consumption of meat
and other animal products has been conclusively linked to strokes, heart disease,
diabetes, obesity and some types of cancer. A recent UN report concluded that
raising animals for food causes more of the greenhouse-gas emissions blamed for
global warming than all the cars, trucks, trains, ships, and planes in the world
combined.

When and Where?

What?
The 45 minute march started at one in the afternoon. Volunteers wore animal masks,
and held placards with witty yet hard hitting punch lines like, "Are you a living
grave?". The idea was to create curiosity amongst onlookers. Volunteers took on
innovative ways to get their message across!
One volunteer knocked on the window of a car at the traffic signal and asked the
driver if he was a vegetarian. On a negative response, he turned to the group of
volunteers and got them all to turn their placards to him and read the messages
out loud! They then wished him well, smiled and walked on. Though the man was thoroughly
confused, he did manage to squeeze in a smile.
So right from getting people into the GO VEG formation, to handing out t-shirts
and soya milk packs, the team of volunteers executed each job with equal zeal, never
letting their 1000 watt smiles die.
Around 400 people supported and walked in the GO VEG March. PETA was overwhelmed
with the response.
