PEACE MEDITATION
Why?
After 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, a strong sense of anguish and fear had gripped
one and all. The only way to give some respite to this crisis was to come together
as youth, to show that the people are not weak, that they stand as one against terror
and corruption.
The YES!+ graduates from Pune organized
a peace meditation where thousands gathered to showcase this unity and strength
against terror.

When and Where?
Date: 15th December, 2008 Time: 6:30 pm
Place: Shaniwarwada, Pune

What?
There was something special about that Monday dawn… it brought with it anticipation,
excitement, commitment and zeal. As the YES!+
volunteers turned up under the hot burning sun at Shaniwarwada, the historic fort
of the Maratha Empire, they felt that they were nothing less than the soldiers of
the great Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaja, a battalion ready to take on the world. The
volunteers were looking their peaceful best in white and smiled ear to ear, welcoming
the young crowd. At 6.30 pm, Shaniwarwada was filled with 4000 youngsters, eager
to make a change, rather be the change.

The participants cheered on throughout the talk and were extremely amazed by their
first experience of meditation.
This was followed by an inspiring talk by
YES!+ teachers on the importance of spirituality in day to day lives of
the youth. All present there took a pledge against violence, terror and corruption
and an oath to incorporate the ways of Indian spirituality into their daily lives.
The evening ended with an overwhelming response by the participants. As they sang
Vande Mataram, tears trickled down and a sense of belongingness swept in.
‘Indeed the youth believe in action over words. We have to be the change we want
to see in society. We have to be peaceful to have a peaceful nation, a safe world
and a harmonious universe’
