WAYE And UNFPA
WAYE & UNFPA collaborated to combat the falling sex
ratio in India with a vision of “Restoration of Natural Equilibrium in the
Sex Ratio” and a mission to combat the social menace of ‘Sex Selection’
through Spiritual Initiatives. WAYE and UNFPA tried to impact
all levels of society especially through the medical fraternity.
With a goal to ‘Accelerate the Level Involvement of the Students of the Medical
Fraternity in order to strengthen mechanisms and initiatives for promoting action
towards combating the declining Sex Ratio
With a vision of promoting educational excellence, volunteers of
Art of Living made arrangements for running a school with higher classes.
The aim of Art of Living is the all-round development
of students. Along with studies, it imparts knowledge of rules of health, cleanliness,
environmental awareness, etc. Feelings of patriotism, honesty and integrity are
instilled in them. For this purpose a “bal sabha” (children’s
assembly) is organised every week.

WAYE developed a special YES!+ program
to address the issue of Sex Selection in India. The project was implemented from
December 2006 to October 2007. WAYE conducted the
YES!+ UNFPA program at 11 medical (rural and urban) colleges across the
state of Maharashtra.

Overall the project was successful in sensitizing the students, changing their attitude
for taking action to combat Sex Selection in both rural and urban Maharashtra by
future doctors. While the initial attitude and responses of the colleges and students
varied, the program resulted in a huge success in all the colleges where the program
was implemented.
